Well, the relatively last minute decision to go to Plokta.con seems to have worked out reasonably well. Granted, Looby Loo may in future wish to ask just why she spent the Jubilee in a hotel in Basingstoke. But she got to do some apparently fun celebratory things with her dad whilst the ravens, increasingly vampiric in their reaction to sunlight (or very much light of any kind), remained inside in the bar. (Had thought about playing the anti-Monarchy card to get out of all celebrations, but it wasn't necessary.)
The ravens found a very pleasant shoulder to perch on for much of the time and plenty of folk to caw at. With about 10% of the folk at the con coming from Cambridge, I caught up with several people I ought to see more of at home but only ever seem to get to talk to at cons.
Baby sat for two of the evenings that we stayed. Compensated (?) for those evenings with the getting to bed at 6 a.m. night in the middle. But somehow failed to get to the LiveJournal "happening" (so I'm still somewhat anonymous).
John Meaney read better than he extemporized his GoH speech, though the latter was fun too. (That was all the programme I actually got to--roughly average for the last few cons I've been to).
Got home with fewer alarms and excursions than we encountered on the way out. Took Looby Loo off to a friend's house for the afternoon. Thoroughly exhausted child.
And I still want to know what prize I get for collecting the set of Watford, Slough and Basingstoke in one day. (Not something I was aiming to do!
